Hypercathexis
Hypercathexis is a proper noun in psychology. It means over obsession or attention to a specific area, person, object. From the very beginning, In Freud’s research, Hypercathexis was used to demonstrate that people have an extreme and abnormal desire for sex. After a while, people used this word to define all unnatural, exaggerated desires in all areas.
Flipbook
I finally showed the 2D project in the form of a flipbook. Hypercathexis is a crazy result, in my opinion, and it is a process of gradually falling into paranoia. I use red to show the desire to be steadily enlarged and black to show the increasing efforts of hypercathexis patients to achieve their goals. I tried to use irregular paint spray shapes to better illustrate this subjective and human psychological activity for the overall pattern. Above the pattern, I also used text to supplement it. From the beginning, the text gradually distorted, enlarged, and invisible to the last disappearance, which signifies that patients with hypercathexis slowly became in pursuit of their desire Crazy and finally wholly immersed in it.
The entire work consists of 9 circles of different sizes, arranged from small to large, suspended in the air in turn. I used a 3D printing pen to mix black and white and grey to create a mesh structure with varying densities inside these circles.
Red Addiction
I divided my shooting contents into three stages: dyeing small objects, dyeing large items, and dyeing of the surrounding environment. The colouring of small things represents the starting point of desire, like when we buy a cup, we pick the colour we like. I chose a bowl, a plate, and a cup as the shooting props in small objects, which are the most commonly used in daily life. For the dyeing of significant items, I chose a table. I dyed the furniture, representing that desire has entered another level, and I have changed the big objects around me. Finally, I painted the walls. In the video, I use white background paper instead. This stage represents the last stage of desire, which has wholly soaked the world.
